SEB'S SCHOOL, ARNI

Education at a new level in rural Arni.

The Sebastian Hunter Higher Secondary School educates 600 boys and girls aged 10-18 years. The children mostly come from the surrounding deprived rural areas, where secondary education has never been possible before, and most are first generation learners. Recently, the school was awarded 'higher secondary' status, providing the students with teaching facilities that will give them further opportunities for higher education.

The Sebastian Hunter Memorial Trust has rebuilt three large classroom blocks (including the Joshua Brearley Science Block) which comprise airy, well designed classrooms, science laboratories and a computer lab, with 20 new computers, generously donated by Goldman Sachs. A new boy’s dormitory and toilet block as well as a guest house for volunteers has also been built. In 2012, a girls toilet block was also built, providing valuable facilities for the female staff and students who, until now, had none.

Since being awarded higher secondary school status in 2010, there is a great need for volunteers at Arni.
